Farewell Friends….

So….

As some of you may or may not know, my time as co-owner of Mercury is coming to an end.  I will be resigning my position as of December 31, 2011.  This was not entirely an easy decision as I love Mercury, our wonderful staff and our amazing customers.  But there comes a time when you just know it’s time to move on.

Over the past near six years, I have made so many new friends and learned so much from everyone I have had the honour of crossing paths with.  I also met my beautiful wife Katie here.   I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the last few years of my life.  But now it’s time to start another chapter.

Katie and I will be moving across the world to sunny Australia, where she is from to spend some time with our family and friends there.  Our move will not be right away, but more likely in the last half of 2012.

Now, I’m not all that good at sentimental goodbyes (or even just plain goodbyes for that matter), so I will keep this short.  I would much rather say goodbye to you all in person as that is how we got together in the first place.  So come on down to the shop and let’s have a coffee together to celebrate amazing friendships that wouldn’t have been possible without this awesome little hole in the wall that you all crafted into what it is now.

When we first opened the doors of Mercury back  on March 20, 2006, we had no idea what was to be in store for us.  All we wanted was a place that we could drink kick ass coffee and listen to music that we wanted to listen to.  Little did we know that all of you would want the same things as us, and for that, I am truly grateful.

This has been such a humbling time in my life as there has not been a day that goes by that I haven’t learned something new.  Whether it be coffee related or what….

So like I said, I want to keep this short as it’s easy to ramble on and on.  So thank you Leslieville for all your support and patience as we’ve grown.  Thank you to all of the amazing coffee roasters that have supplies us with the best coffee I’ve ever tasted.  Thank you Doug Tiller for being a great friend and business partner.  Thank you to my wonderful wife Katie for all of your love support.  And thank you to everyone who has graced our bar as a barista.  You guys are the best staff I could have ever hoped to work with over these past few years. You’re all so talented and passionate.

Please, do come in and see me before the end of the year and let’s have a coffee together before I have to pay for them.

See you soon folks…. You all ROCK!

Thank you for the past 5 ¾ years!

-Matthew
